Your body produces toxins during metabolism. Plus, pollution, chemicals, microplastics, unhealthy food are also full of toxins which find a way inside your body. However, the body has its own plumbing system that flushes out its toxins. But the extra ones you gather through an unhealthy lifestyle are more stressful to the body’s natural system.
This is why, you need to take added efforts to detox your body so that it stays clean and well-functioning.
What Is Detoxification?
When waste builds up in the body over time, it gives birth to complicated health issues. So, you need to make sure that your blood is always pure. But that does not always happen automatically. When that happens you can take some added measures to optimise your body’s capability of discarding toxins – this process is call detoxification.
Through the process of detoxification, your body breaks down toxins or unwanted material in your body and eliminates it out.
How Your Body Detoxifies
There are majorly four ways through which toxins are eliminated – urine, stool, sweat and respiration.
Urine is formed in the kidney. The kidney is a sieve-like organ which filters the blood and separates the toxins from it. It is then flush out in the form of urine.
Ideally, urine should be clear or slight yellow in colour. If it is darker in colour, it represents that your blood needs more purification. This can be fixed by drinking more water. Drink eight glasses of purified water each day to keep your blood toxin-free.
The saying about bowel movement goes like – nil a day is ill; once a day is happy; twice a day is greedy. This ancient formula holds to this date – if you don’t go even once or more than twice, it’s a matter of health issue. You should pass stool one to two times each day to detoxicate your body properly.
Watch out for constipation and loose motion. You can drink plenty of water to control constipation. But loose motion should be brought to the notice of a health expert.
Your skin is the largest organ of the body and it contains tiny pores through which you sweat. Sweat is a very efficient way to detoxify yourself naturally. It is one of the most widespread ways of detoxification in ancient times.
While you sweat, at least, a little everyday. But if you take an effort to work up a sweat three times a week, you can detoxify yourself very easily. Alternatively, you can go for a sauna or a steam bath. We, at Sushruta Ayurveda, offer a warm detoxifying bath that not only detoxifies your body but also detoxifies your mind by reducing stress and boosting your nerve actions.
- RespirationYour lungs are constantly at work. They carry oxygen to the blood and carries carbon-dioxide and other toxins out of your body. But in today’s polluted air, we breathe in many other biological or chemical toxins. So, you must avoid those as much as possible; use a scarf of surgical mask if you can’t stay away from pollution. In addition, you can also perform yogic breathing exercises. Benefits of breathing in naturally fresh air at daybreak are manyfold – it detoxifies the body, improves blood circulation, stimulates your senses and de-stresses you.
These four aspects work in collaboration and flushed out toxins from your body. You need to ensure that you do part in assisting them by drinking plenty of water, staying away from environmental toxins and performing certain exercises that can be helpful in the process of detoxification.
